"Returned Peace Corps Volunteers"

Kids Around the World is a project of the National Peace Corps Association’s Global TeachNet program. To us, it’s another way to “bring the world back home”—a virtual means of exposing students here in the United States to some of the peoples and cultures we encountered through the Peace Corps.

So, if you’d like to share your Peace Corps experience with students but don’t quite know where to begin, Kids Around the World is a great place to start!

First of all, you can share the site with children.  You can explore the site with a child or a group of children, or you can print out an interview to distribute for a classroom presentation that will give students a better idea about your life in the Peace Corps. If you are currently abroad, you can send friends and family to the site to learn more about your host country. The lesson plans on this site may also help you generate ideas of how to use Kids Around the World in a classroom presentation.

Second, you can help us make Kids Around the World more complete and inclusive of all cultures and countries.  If you have ideas for additional lesson plans about students featured on the site, and/or if you are currently living in another country and are interested in interviewing a child to be added to Kids Around the World, check the Get Involved section of this website for more information about how to contribute.

Teachers all across the country are infusing more global education into the curriculum and are eager to bring people with first-hand international experience into their classrooms.  To find a classroom to speak in, simply go to Peace Match, an online speaker match database, and register as a speaker.  You can then search for teachers in your area who have requested an RPCV speaker. The Peace Match site also contains a number of ideas and advice—be sure to check it out!
