Imana
This is Imana. Imana is 11 years old and she is from Sudan. For most of the year, Imana lives at a boarding school. The school is in Narus, which is in the southeast part of Southern Sudan, close to Kenya. Narus is also an internal refugee village. This means that many people who had to leave their homes because of war or violence have come to live in this village, where they can be safe. People in the village receive donated money for food and clothing. Homes surrounding the school are mostly mud huts with thatch roofs. Imana spends a lot of time in her school uniform, which is a maroon skirt and blue top.

Every year or so, Imana leaves her school to visit her family's house in Torit. Torit is about four hours away from Narus. Her house there is made of cement, with a tin roof. Her family lives there because Lotukos (their tribe) have always lived in or around Torit. They have some goats, chickens, and ducks.

Torit enjoys six months of rainy season (March to June and October to December). During this time, the land is very green. Mango trees, sorghum, and greens grow and flourish. Not as many things grow during the dry season.
