The glimpses into the lives of the KATW children can be an excellent starting point for exploring cultures. You can also give your students a first-hand perspective on life in other countries by inviting Returned Peace Corps Volunteers to speak to the class about their experiences in the countries where they lived and served. You can search for Returned Peace Corps Volunteer speakers in your area by visiting www.peacematch.org.
For Parents
Welcome to Kids Around the World! This site will introduce your child to the lives, customs, and cultures of children in countries throughout the developing world. There’s a lot you can do to help your child get the most out of Kids Around the World!
First, explore the site with your child. Ask him or her questions about the children they meet:
•
What do you find most interesting about this child and his or her life?
•
How is his or her daily life different from yours? How is it the same?
•
What other questions would you like to ask this child? What would you like the child to know about you?
•
Pretend you went to the child’s home to visit him/her. What would you want to do? What objects would you bring from your home? Why?
